The Other Lamb Review

The other lamn review

The Other Lamb (8/10)

For her entire life, the cult she was born into has been all that teenage Selah has known. Along with a band of similarly cloistered young women she lives seemingly unstuck in time, cut off from modern society in a remote forest commune presided over by a man called Shepherd, a controlling, messiah-like figure with a frightening dark side. But when her insular world is rocked by a series of nightmarish visions and disturbing revelations, Selah begins to question everything about her existence–including her allegiance to the increasingly dangerous Shepherd. Awash in images of primal, dreamlike dread, this provocative fable is a haunting vision of adolescent awakening and revolt.

The Other Lamb is basically a twisted interpretation of modern feminism with a lot of similarities when compared to MidSommar!

With an occult story at heart, this unsettling motion picture tackled tons of interesting and provocative themes such as incest, religious and cultural oppression, sexual assault… The unorthodox and somehow disturbing storyline will slowly but surely get under your skin. It will leave you feeling totally uncomfortable, but this is the best thing about it.

With such a multilayered story, director Malgorzata Szumowska made sure to create meaningful characters. Diverse characters with deep psychological residue, hardship, and complexity!

These characters were flawlessly portrayed by some talented performers such as Raffey Cassidy and Michiel Huisman (Known for his role in Game of Thrones). Totally beautiful and sincere.

The intense storyline combined with the eerie vibe created a one of a kind disturbing atmosphere that totally suited the whole themes of The Other Lamb.

I also would like to mention that the cinematography and the camerawork were absolutely breathtaking and haunting!

My one and only criticism is that something felt missing! Like just one additional component and this film would have turned out perfect.

Nevertheless, The Other Lamb is a film not to be missed.
