Netflix Dare Me Review

Dare Me (7.5/10) its a Netflix show

What’s high school without a little bit of drama, right?

Dare Me is an intelligent new Netflix series that doesn’t shy away from exploring traumatic and, to an extent, extreme themes that highlights what it is like to be a teen cheerleader in today’s society with of course some imaginative twists and turns.

The series dives into the cutthroat world of competitive high school cheerleading, following the fraught relationship between two best friends after a new coach arrives to bring their team to prominence.

If you think that this is just like any other average coming-of-age kind of stories with some drama, well don’t. Despite the story being labeled as “Teen drama”, Dare Me is actually a brutal representation of a faulty system filled with violence, substance abuse and the misuse of power and “shockingly” MURDER!!

The story, with all its complicated layers and components, could be considered as one of this show’s strongest points. It was both haunting and captivating.

Moreover, Dare Me had some really “interesting” characters, to say the least. I really liked how pretty much everyone was written with a dash of ambiguity. All of the character’s stories were reasonable and traumatizing!! These are characters with intense life experiences just trying to make the most out of it and not fall into the desperate and agonizing lifestyle that is set in front of them.

Willa Fitzgerald and Herizen Guardiola honestly did one hell of good job in portraying both of their characters and their on-screen chemistry was electrifying!!! But, for me, Marlo Kelly was the ultimate star of this show. You could truly feel the amount of hard work and emotions that she has put into bringing her extremely complicated and strong character to life!!

Generally speaking, I was honestly surprised by how much this show truly captivated me, either with its intense themes or its complicated story, which eventually both created a really hypnotic atmosphere that left each spectator wanting more. I highly recommend it.
