“True monsters are not born but made.”
Ratched is a suspenseful drama series that tells the origin story of asylum nurse Mildred Ratched. In 1947, Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred’s stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.
Opening with a flawless overview and closing with an exhilarating cliffhanger, Ratched was basically exuding pure dramedy excellence. The storyline, as heavy and intricate as it was, was at the end a melodious blend of elusive dread and dark cynicism, sprinkled with orgasmic intensity!! The show magnificently showcased diverse forms of mental illnesses and their outdated and barbaric means of treatment. It also eluded about sadism, masochism and the thin lines between those fetishes and the mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, delusion, borderline personality disorder…
Ryan Murphy masterfully created a universe where mental illness and fetishism fuses together, a universe where terror and mania are in control and a universe where no one is innocent, and nothing is as simple as it seems!!!
Ratched is a twisted kind of shows that has an impeccable character progression!! The show’s characters, no matter how distant or irrelevant they may seem, were all stitched and patched together to one highly complicated range. Each one of them narrated a deranged story of its own while still taking part in the overall narrative. But nothing came close to perfection like Mildred Ratched. A character that will captivate all spectators with her alarmingly charming wits and twisted actions! She is a one in a million kind of character.
The revelation of each and every character back-story and purposes was borderline perfection. Ratched is the example of intricate script writing that leaves no idea without weaving it into the core of the storyline
And who is more qualified to take on such a diverse and difficult character other than the spellbinding Sarah Paulson? She has unquestionably delivered one of the best performances of the year. She slowly but ominously embodied the persona of Mildred Ratched! But Paulson’s stupefying performance has not overshadowed her castmates’ stellar acts such as Sharon Stone, Finn Wittrock and Judy Davis’.
The perfection continues with one hell of a hypnotic score, eye-gasmic dark color palette and an undeniably seducing and terrific ambiance that just goes hand in hand with its equal of a story! you can literally say that each and every tiny detail was taken care of with absolute perfection!
Ryan Murphy’s latest creation is a visually haunting and mentally arousing experience that will leave all spectators famished for more!!
